Monica J. Lehre, Associate
Monica J. Lehre is a business associate who practices in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, probate, and trust and probate litigation.
Ms. Lehre was raised in Sonoma County and is a graduate of El Molino High School. She received her AA degree from Santa Rosa Junior College and her BA degree in history from Sonoma State University. She also has a Master’s in Legal Studies and a Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Empire College School of Law.
Ms. Lehre has worked in the legal field for the past 20 years, having graduated from SSU’s paralegal program in 2001. She became an Advanced Certified Paralegal in 2005. In 2007, she became the Director of the Legal Department at Empire College School of Business and oversaw the day and evening Paralegal, Law Office Administration, and Legal Secretary programs. While managing the Legal Department with its full time and adjunct faculty and setting curriculum for the degree and certificate legal programs, she also taught a full load of classes. Among the subjects she taught during her 12-year tenure were Business Law, Estate Planning/Probate, Civil Procedure, E-Discovery, Real Property Law, Legal Research and Legal Writing. In 2012, she received the Educator of the Year Award from the college. After graduating from law school and while studying for the California Bar Exam, Ms. Lehre became a Professor at her Alma Mater, Empire College School of Law, where she teaches Advanced Legal Research. She is currently a member of its adjunct faculty.
Ms. Lehre’s passion for teaching the law and working with attorneys as a paralegal led her to enroll in law school in 2013 when Empire College School of Law introduced its Master’s in Legal Studies degree. After receiving her MLS degree, she continued in law school and earned her JD. Attending law school at night while teaching legal classes during the day was a full emersion experience in all manner of legal subjects that greatly enhanced Ms. Lehre’s ability to quickly analyze and explain complex legal topics.
While in law school, Ms. Lehre interned at Sonoma County Legal Aid, working with victims of domestic violence to obtain temporary and permanent restraining orders against their assailants. She also clerked with a local estate planning attorney and volunteered at the Small Claims Court Clinic.
Ms. Lehre is a member of the State Bar of California and the Sonoma County Bar Association. She is on the board of Sonoma County Women in Law.
Ms. Lehre enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and new puppy. She also enjoys hiking in the hills of Sonoma County with friends and reading antiquated English mystery novels.
