Shaw Center for Memory Care Volunteering

John O’Brien (pictured left) has been volunteering with senior services for a few years now and began working helping seniors with dementia at our Shaw Center for Memory Care. Every Tuesday, John spends his time engaging with clients, helping them with activities during the day, eating lunch with them, and making personal connections with seniors to help them have moments of joy. John, a veteran himself, talks with veterans about their services history, as well as brings in current events, and is a dancing partner for many clients.

In 2017, John also began volunteering as a driver for the Senior Transportation Program, and he now also gives his time to seniors who have no transportation to medical appointments or grocery shopping. John is an extremely dedicated volunteer, and we are grateful to have his calm, positive, and caring demeanor as a part of our programs.

He makes a huge impact in our programs and we are thankful the he willingly donates so much of his time to the seniors in our community!
