We are pleased to announce that the County of Sonoma recently confirmed it is dropping its Occidental County Sanitation District Wastewater Transport Compliance Project (SCH# 2014122028). With this proposal, the Water Agency planned to truck raw sewage from Occidental to the Russian River Sanitation District lift station located on Riverside Drive in Guernewood Park. Riverside Drive residents were rightfully concerned about adverse impacts on their neighborhood from 5-15 large trucks a day pumping raw sewage into the lift station, including noise, traffic, and odors. Under current conditions, when the Russian River runs high enough, raw sewage runs down Riverside Drive.
We were able to show the County a settlement agreement from 1993 in which the County settled claims by one of our former clients regarding impacts to her property from noise, traffic and odors caused by the existing lift station operations. In that settlement agreement, the County waived all right to expand the lift station in the future. Thanks to opposition by the neighborhood, the 1993 settlement agreement, and support by their 5th District Supervisor, the neighborhood was successful in getting the County to drop this misguided proposal.
